Bánh Mi Saigon

Bánh Mi Saigon - the inspiration for this entire bánh mì tour. Bánh mì saigon is well known among bánh mì enthusiasts in Vancouver for their fresh made bread, fast service, and convenient location. And let me tell you, their reputation for excellence is well deserved.

Bánh Mi Saigon has a cash only sign, but they do indeed take debit card if you ask them. Bring cash just in case though.

The Components

Bread

The bread is head and shoulders above every other bánh mì I’ve tried. They bake it fresh in house daily, so if you arrive at the right time you get perfectly crust outside, and a warm fluffy interior. Top marks.

Veg

Inside, we have fresh cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeno. There’s also pickled daikon and carrot (with good seasoning). Everything is cut to the correct size. Again, full marks

Spread

Today, I got #9 - the lemongrass chicken. It does not come with pate.

There was a slathering of homemade mayo. Well done.

Meat

The lemongrass chicken was flavorful, moist, and just falling apart. Perfectly done.

Overall Impression

They’ve nailed every single element of a good bánh mì, and bring it over the top with fresh in-house bread.

Recommendation

This is the best bánh mì I’ve tried yet. If you can only go to one bánh mì restaurant, go to this one.
