Tuan & Thuy Kitchen
Tuan & Thuy is directly next to a very dense traffic area in Vancouver - Kingsway and Victoria Dr. I rode my bike up there, but there was no nearby places to lock up my bike - beside some very wide street lights, which my u-lock won’t fit.
The Components
Bread
The bread was excellent. Fabulous, even. From the first bite you can tell it was baked fresh recently, and if the taste doesn’t convince you, perhaps the giant oven with bread racks next to it may.
Veg
The veg was good. Standard pickled veg (carrot, daikon), cilantro, cucumber. I thought they may have missed jalapeno, but it was only one half of the sandwich. An oversight?
Spread
Here’s where the rubber meets the road. The spread was amazing. They sauced the hell out of my sandwich. Saucy meat, mayo, and plenty of pate. 10/10.
Meat
I ordered the pork (there’s only one other bahn mi option - chicken). The pork was well seasoned, tender, and, as mentioned before, saucy. No notes.
Overall Impression
Tuan & Thuy may be in an inconvenient area to travel to, but the interior is homely and quiet. Service was good, and they have plenty of interior seating. The sandwich was very photogenic, a photo I hope to share soon.
Recommendation
I’m definitely coming back to get more, and you should too. Even if they weren’t one of the closest shops to my house, this sandwich is top tier.
