The Red Wagon
The Red Wagon is a popular local diner in Vancouver, and it usually has a substantial wait. While their menu mainly consists of western brunch food, they also have a breakfast bahn mi - the most expensive one I’ve tried yet. But is it good?
The Components
Bread
The bread was pretty soft. It lacked a bit of a crunch factor, which is something I typically like. Not a dealbreaker.
Veg
We had cilantro, pickled carrot and diakon, and jalapeno. No issues here.
Spread
The mayo was bland, and there was no pate. I believe, given they’re going for more of a breakfast vibe, the lack of pate is understandable.
Meat
The Red Wagon has fantastic pork belly, and it works here. They also include a couple of sunny-side up eggs, which works for a breakfast bahn mi
Overall Impression
The Red Wagon has a fun take on a bahn mi. It’s not my favorite by any means, but if you have a hankering it fits the bill. I just wish the bread was crisper, and price-wise it’s pretty steep - you can definitely get better value elsewhere.
Recommendation
Worth trying if you’re eating at the Red Wagon and price is not a concern.
