Merci Beaucoup Cafe
This cozy cafe is one of the last restaurants serving bahn mi on the drive that I’ve yet to visit. They offer a variety of Vietnamese options, among them their $7-$8 bahn mi sandwiches. The restaurant itself is cozy and well put together. Let’s get into it.
The Components
Bread
The bread was good! Warm, crusty with enough give to make it enjoyable.
Veg
The veg was extremely fresh, seriously among the best I’ve had yet. Their only downfall - no daikon. I had an all-carrot sandwich. Plenty of cilantro and jalapeno however.
Spread
The spread was okay. No pate on this particular sandwich (it’s listed as an ingredient on other bahn mi’s they serve), and the mayo was mayo in sufficient quantities. The lack of pate really brings the sandwich down a notch in my eyes, but it was an intentional choice on their part.
Meat
The meat was outstanding. Among the best I’ve had yet. I ordered the lemongrass chicken, they give you freshly grilled whole pieces of chicken. Serving whole pieces of chicken really made them stand out.
Overall Impression
This sandwich was deceptively large, and for ~$9 after tax - I think it has tremedous value.
Recommendation
This is definitely worth your while if you’re in the area and looking for lunch. I only wish they added daikon and pate to their lemongrass chicken bahn mi, but I will note that their menu does state the other bahn mi options do include pate.
