Viet Sub Vietnamese Cuisine
Today was the first day of a new job for me, and that meant heading into downtown Vancouver to the office. A coworker asked if I wanted to grab lunch, which is an excellent excuse to try a new bánh mì restaurant in a place I don’t get to too often!
Viet Sub Vietnamese Cuisine is on Robson street, and as the name implies they’re exclusively focused on bánh mì. They have a retro Vancouver vibe to them, friendly service and a solid line of customers - always a good sign.
The Components
Bread
The bread was decent! Crusty yet not crumby on the outside, and an average interior. It arrived warm which is a good sign. No major complaints here.
Veg
Excellent veg. Crisp cilantro, large batons of pickled daikon and carrot. I don’t remember there being jalapeno, but I’ll forgive it.
Spread
The mayo hit the mark, and there was just the right amount of pate on my pork special bánh mì.
Meat
They packed in the perfect amount of meat (pork, in this instance) for a lunchtime sandwich, and it was flavorful to boot.
Overall Impression
True to my initial impression, Viet Sub offers a quintessential Vancouver bánh mì experience. Fast service, an excellent price point, proper temperatures and solid ingredients all contribute to a winning experienc e.
Recommendation
This is a great spot to head for lunch if you’re in downtown Vancouver and you want a quick, fresh, and inexpensive bánh mì.
