Viet Street Food Cafe
Viet Street Food Cafe has a small, cozy, and friendly vibe sitting on Kingsway right in the heart of little Saigon. The sole staff member I encountered immediately struck up a conversation with me, a small gesture which warmed my icy heart.
The cafe has a focus on lunch items, bánh mì chiefly among them. Let’s see how it is!
The Components
Bread
They warmed up my baguette fresh in the toaster. The bread itself was outstanding - crispy, but extremely light - probably the lightest bread I’ve had so far. Personally, I loved it. Outstanding
Veg
Veg was another hit. Everything except jalapeno was present, which isn’t strictly necessary - just a nice to have.
Spread
Minor points deduction for spread. I found the sandwich a little dry for my liking. Given the friendliness of the staff, I don’t think it would have been a problem to ask for more of their house mayo and pate.
I appreciate that they specify house mayo on the menu - it means some love was put into it.
Meat
The pork was outstanding. A large amount was heaped into the base of the sandwich, and was extremely tender and had a sweet and tangy flavor.
Overall Impression
Viet Street Food Cafe delivers a great, authentic bánh mi experience. Friendly service, a quaint shop, and a quality bánh mi all contribute.
Recommendation
This is a great option if you’re in the area and craving a sandwich. Add on a Vietnamese coffee if you need something to wash it down with, and don’t be afraid to ask for extra mayo if you like it saucy.
